Johnson & Johnson Opens Tokyo Science Center at “KING SKYFRONT” to introduce advanced skills and techniques of Japanese healthcare professionals to the world.

Johnson & Johnson K.K. Medical Company (Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Tamotsu Hiiro; “J&J”) announced that on August 6, 2014, the company will open the “Tokyo Science Center” in the “KING SKYFRONT” Tonomachi International Strategic Zone (Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Pref.) located in the Keihin Coastal Area Life Innovation Comprehensive Special Zones for International Competitiveness Development. The Center will serve as one of the R&D and training centers operated by J&J around the world.

In recent years, the Japanese Government has been promoting the Life Innovation Strategy with goals of realizing a society with a long healthy life span and contributing to economic growth by strengthening the international competitiveness through development of innovative drugs and medical devices. High quality medical devices and medical technology offered by J&J in Japan, which is a medically advanced nation as well as the world’s fastest aging society [1], will inevitably contribute to the advancement of medical technology at home and abroad.

Equipped with cutting-edge medical facilities including a device for minimally invasive surgical simulation and a cardiovascular/musculoskeletal treatment simulator as well as a video conference system, the Tokyo Science Center is a research and training center for healthcare professionals. Approximately over 10,000 domestic and overseas healthcare professional are expected to visit the Center annually to learn subtle techniques of Japanese healthcare professionals and advanced medical technology. The Center offers a wide range of learning programs including the one developed by J&J in collaboration with Japanese companies which uses realistic organ models, and those for endoscopic surgery and cardiovascular disease treatment, thereby making the Center a base for introducing Japan’s cutting-edge medical devices and technology both domestically and overseas. In addition, feedback on J&J products will be collected from healthcare professionals not only in Japan but also from Asian countries visiting the Center for further improvement of existing products and development of new products which satisfy needs in Japan and Asian countries.

President Tamotsu Hiiro said, “With an ultimate goal of satisfying unmet medical needs, I would like the Tokyo Science Center to be a hub to showcase cutting-edge medical technology. I also hope that the Center will be a place to pool wisdom of Japan and Asian countries for further improvement of medical technology.”
